Phone menus

Can an AI get through a phone menu to a real person?

Last updated: November 2026

Yes. Phone Bud presses keys and answers spoken menus to reach the right department or a person, waits on hold for up to 30 minutes, then asks your question and sends you the answer and a transcript. It can't pass identity checks for you or transfer the call to you.

How it works

When a recorded menu answers, Phone Bud listens to the options and presses the matching key or says the option out loud. When a person picks up, it introduces itself as your assistant and asks your question.

Tips for a good request

  • Name the department you need, such as billing or a store associate.
  • Include an account, order or tracking number if the menu will ask for one.
  • Ask one clear question.
  • Include your own number if you want a callback, since calls come from a Phone Bud number.

Limits

Calls end at 30 minutes, including hold time, and your free call ends at 5 minutes. Some lines need the account holder to pass an identity check, like a PIN or security questions, and Phone Bud won't pretend to be you. Some menus only accept certain spoken phrases, so naming the department helps.
