Can Grok Bot make phone calls?

Last updated: November 2026

Yes. Grok Bot can place calls for you on its own. Connect Phone Bud when you want to ask a list of places the same thing and compare the answers, call from your own number, or keep every call's notes, transcript and recording in one place.

Can Grok Bot call a business for me?

Yes. On October 25, 2026, Elon Musk announced that Grok Bot can call a person or a business for you, make a request, and send you a summary of the conversation (post on X).

xAI's Grok Bot terms, updated October 31, 2026, cover these calls. You're the caller of record. Calls say they're made by a virtual assistant on your behalf and may be recorded. They can't be used for marketing or mass calls (Grok Bot Terms).

xAI hasn't published which countries or plans include calling. One reviewer reports their bot said calling works for people in the US calling US numbers, except in Washington and Illinois (Techloy).

When to connect Phone Bud

Grok Bot's own calling is fine for a single errand. Phone Bud adds:

  • Calling a list. Ask several places the same thing, such as prices from five caterers, and get the answers side by side.
  • US and Canada numbers.
  • Calls from your own number, once you verify it in Phone Bud.
  • A record of every call: notes, transcript and recording, in your Phone Bud account.

Phone Bud has its own rules too: call only people and businesses you have a reason to contact (acceptable use).

Here's a made-up example. You ask Grok Bot:

"Ask these four bike shops what a road tune-up costs and when I can drop it off this week."

Example (illustrative) 3 of 4 answered

Request: Ask each shop the price of a road bike tune-up and the earliest drop-off this week. Don't book anything.

Ride On is cheapest at $75, from Friday. Chain Gang can take it tomorrow for $110.

Phone Bud:Thanks, I'll pass that on.

How to connect Phone Bud to Grok Bot

Grok Bot supports the same MCP servers, plugins and skills as Cursor, and it can ask you for an API key in a secure form (Grok Bot 101).

Create an API key in Phone Bud under Settings, Developer, then paste this into a Grok Bot chat:

Add a custom MCP server named phone-bud.
URL: https://www.phone-bud.com/mcp
Header: Authorization: Bearer <API key>
Ask me for the key in a secure form.

Then install the skill at
phone-bud.com/skills/phone-bud/SKILL.md
and check the connection with list_agents.

Grok Bot then has make_call for one number and start_campaign for a list. The skill tells it to confirm the number and the request with you before every call. Full setup is on the Grok Bot page.

Limits

Phone Bud places the call and reports back; it can't hand the call to you.

  • It calls US and Canada numbers only.
  • Calls end at 30 minutes, including hold time. The first call is free, up to 5 minutes.
  • The MCP server takes an API key, with no OAuth sign-in yet.
  • It introduces itself as your assistant, says it's an AI if asked, and never claims to be you or a person.
  • It can't transfer the call to you or pay for anything.
